    Biography

Hyoun Ja Park is a partner and head of the firm’s Electrical/IT Group. Ms. Park’s expertise in all aspects of the patent law of multiple jurisdictions has established her as the “go-to” attorney for matters in electrical engineering, electronics, and mechanical engineering in all of Korea.

After beginning her career at FirstLaw as an engineer, Ms. Park passed the Korean patent bar and subsequently graduated summa cum laude from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law on her way to becoming a U.S. attorney-at-law. During her time at the Ohio State, Ms. Park served as editor of the Journal of Law and Policy for the Information Society, while earning the Ernest Karam Book Award, the Albert A. Levin Memorial Award, the Excellence for the Future Award in Professional Responsibility, and the Excellence for the Future Award in Legal Writing.

Ms. Park regularly represents clients in front of the KIPO, Board of Trials, IP High Court, and district courts in Korea, and has also collaborated with counsel to represent both Korean and Japanese clients in front of international patent offices, the US Federal Circuit, and the ITC. She has experience dealing with just about every possible issue related to IP, including IP due diligence in relation to corporate M&A, technology/IP transfer and transactions, licensing, IP portfolio counseling, and standard patent evaluation.

“Hyoun Ja helps us file and prosecute patent applications in South Korea. She is an expert in Korean patent laws and also very knowledgeable in the US patent laws. She understands the difference between Korean and US practice, and is able to articulate such differences so that US practitioners will understand what they are facing in Korea. She is very detail oriented, thorough and responsive. She communicates with us very clearly and promptly. We are very happy with her representation,” commented a client.
